Our classes are a great way to get in shape:
  • The martial arts have always provided a "total body workout" for practitioners. The physical techniques and training methods provide strength and toning benefits while the practice of the techniques using speed and power makes for a challenging cardiovascular workout.
  • Our flexible schedule and the emphasis on kickboxing in our program provides ample opportunity to enjoy the fitness benefits of our classes.
  • Our instructors allow you to work at your own pace while encouraging you to continue to challenge yourself.

Our program is a lot of fun:
  • We make the classes fun because we believe that if people are having fun they learn much faster and will stick with it longer.
  • We have tried to do away the overly formal and ritualistic environment of some traditional schools while still maintaining a culture of discipline and respect.
  • We emphasize an egoless environment where nobody, instructors included, take themselves too seriously. Laughter and humor is used frequently and encouraged.
  • Never feel out of place... Our students appreciate the casual attire and friendly atmosphere of our school.

Our classes relieve stress:
  • The stress relieving benefits of exercise have been widely accepted.
  • The tempering of aggressive tendencies through martial arts practice is a great benefit for some people.
  • Some people think class is like a mini-vacation two to three times a week... troubles and worries seem a million miles away.
  • Relieving stress makes us more productive.
What we teach can save your life:
  • Everything we teach is reality-based. The arts taught at MKG Martial Arts International have direct and immediate correlation to situations that citizens in our culture may encounter.
  • The tempering of aggressive tendencies through martial arts practice is a great benefit for some people.
  • Our instructors work very hard...
  • Under very safe learning conditions...

Our classroom practice sessions give you confidence:
  • What students appreciate the most...
  • Nothing can take the place...
  • You can defend yourself, if you have to...

The following is a list of adult programs we offer at MKG Martial Arts International:

Mixed Martial Arts/Phase Classes
Kickboxing Classes
Core Arts Classes

The Mixed Arts program is our signature method and we recommend that all new students begin here. Improve your fitness, self-discipline, coordination and self defense capability while you relieve stress and develop cultural appreciation in these fun and high-energy classes. Students will be exposed to many different martial arts experiences as they progress through our Phase classes.

Our curriculum covers 5 primary arts or methods; Muay Thai Kickboxing, Kali Panantukan, Kali Weaponry, Mixed Grappling, and Jun Fan Martial Arts. We have found that studying different arts simultaneously is a great way to develop; each art seems to help the assimilation of the others. As these different arts mix an explosion of technique and training method develops. In time and after a student develops competency in each area they will naturally gravitate towards a specialty that fits their body type, training time, personality, life experience, etc. We emphasize that all the methods will be valid for some students at some time.

In many other systems, the progress of the students is measured by belt color. At MKG Martial Arts International, we have not adopted a belt system. In the Mixed Arts program development is measured by progression through 6 phases and various sub-levels. The first 3 phases are curriculum and knowledge based while the last 3 phase are personal development phases.

Phase I: Base Curriculum Concepts (Beginner)

We will begin to work on your body mechanics, endurance, sensitivity, coordination and technical base. An emphasis on the high percentage, highly functional basic areas of each art is emphasized. In this way a strong foundation for advanced growth is established.

  • Phase One Level 1
  • Phase One Level 2
  • Phase One Level 3
Phase III: Integrate the Arts (Advanced)

You will begin to integrate the arts, ranges and techniques you were taught. As your skills come together to represent the complete martial spectrum you will improve your sense of distance, timing, rhythm and flow. A student at these levels will be learning to adapt to situations instantly and truly realize Bruce Lees axiom to "use no way as way and have no limitation as limitation."

  • Phase Three Level 1
  • Phase Three Level 2
  • Phase Three Level 3

Phase II: Sensitivity Training (Intermediate)

The more esoteric, coordination intensive areas of each art are developed at this phase. The goal is to learn to feel pressure and respond to your opponent’s mistakes without thinking. Hand and foot trapping, limb destructions and wrenches will all be taught using drills from Kali, Wing Chun and Silat. These are the drills and training methods that will take a life- time to refine and development but can be practiced at any age.

  • Phase Two Level 1
  • Phase Two Level 2
  • Phase Two Level 3
Phase IV: Mental & Physical Changes (Physical)

In this phase your body will be adapting to the changes required by these arts. Your musculature, body motion and general abilities will be visibly improved.

Phase V: Finding your own Direction (Mental)

In this phase you will be encouraged to follow your personal interests and specialize in a specific area of the art while striving to maintain a well rounded base ability.

Phase VI: Positive use of the Art (Spiritual)

This is the most rewarding phase of our system. You will be encouraged to find an outlet where you can use this art to help people in some way.

We strongly believe in the value of testing to advance between levels. You will be encouraged to advance but testing remains optional. Only your level of interest, training time, personality, and ability will determine your progress through Phases 1-6. We have created a non-traditional testing process where students are evaluated simultaneously in a multi-level, group where no student is ever singled out or embarrassed and test results are confidential. This provides all the positive benefits of goal setting, benchmarking and personal development while eliminating the anxiety and embarrassment of similar

If you are looking for a fitness program that can truly keep you challenged and interested then our kickboxing program is exactly what you are looking for. Muscle and Fitness magazine rates aerobic kickboxing as the number one fat burner with over 800 calories burned in a one hour class! 800 CALORIES!! We not only teach a class that gives you fitness benefits but you will also be developing solid kickboxing and boxing skills through the arts of Muay Thai, Jun Kickboxing, Savate and Panantukan. Truly a workout with a purpose! Our program is designed for students of all levels. The emphasis in these classes is to keep moving, have fun and get a great workout.

As our students interest develops or time constraints arise many students choose to train in our core art classes as well. We currently offer 6 classes a week on specific curriculum areas; Grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Panantukan, Weaponry, Jun Fan Martial Arts and Muay Thai. While these are not recommended for new students because of the extremely diverse level of curriculum covered they are great supplements for current students or for students with a background in the arts.

From the International Examiner - The Journal of Northwest Asian American Communities - Feb. 18 - Mar. 2, 2004

"Learning a number of different martial arts (Kali, Jun Fan Martial Arts/Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), rather than just one, not only develops a well-rounded student, but enhances the learning process," "Add this to the school's self-paced classes, friendly, environment, firm safety measures, and a good mix of male and female students, and it's easy to see why people keep coming back."

"Martial arts training has a definite mental benefit," said Edmund Ng, a Chinese American who studied karate for 10 years. 'I've learned how to concentrate on anything, in all parts of my life.' For the past year, he has trained four or five times a week at MKG Seattle and credits his training with giving him more confidence in presentations at work."

"Taking the classes motivates you to have better health habits, in terms of what you put into your body, so that you can perform better."

"This display of art, tradition and mental and physical ability seems to symbolize what martial arts training is all about."

Reviews from Yelp.com

Let me say, right up front: I SUCK at sports.

Call it what you will; lack of coordination, poor reflexes and physical strength, I wasn't potty trained right, whatever. I've made my peace with this over the years. Big spaz that I am however I've spent a long time looking for something to burn off excess energy that's healthier for me than wondering aimlessly around the city smoking and muttering to myself. Then my roommate started taking kick-boxing classes in an effort, I believe, to meet boys. Anything that would get her out of bed before noon was frankly awe inspiring, so I thought I'd check it out.

The staff over at MKG recommend that you start with the mixed arts class. It's an hour long buffet of exercises and techniques offered most days in day and evening classes. The first one I went too turned me into a runny stain on the floor. I knew I was un-coordinated, but not that un-coordinated. I knew I lacked stamina, but not that much stamina, etc.

I am however a prideful bastard, so I stuck it out for a month while I thought of excuses I could use to back out gracefully (The best I could come up with was to fake a stroke during class).

Then the amazing thing happened: I started to get better.

This Is why MKG works. The staff works on developing core attributes by getting you to focus on what your body is doing. Want to develop stamina; do triple kicks for two-minutes. After some classes I would walk out into the cool evening drenched in sweat and shaky limbed from exertion and seriously felt that I had accomplished something.

I still pretty much suck at sports, but not as much as I did. Who can say about tomorrow? - Jason T.

Great community of people and great classes! I'm one of those that have a gym membership and don't use it but at this gym, I've been going to there consistently for 3 years now. Martial arts, fitness, and health are big things in my life and I love it! They have classes to fit everyone's fitness and skill levels, whether you want to just workout like in the Body Sculpt classes or really get involved in the martial arts culture of it in the regular adults program. Highly recommend this place! - Laura W.
